No, unlike the lucky kitty, we're not on vacay... However, following the Malaysian government's Movement Control Order, the Gordian Team will be working from home with this gif as our desktop background from today to 1 April 2020.
For the most part, it will be business as usual, especially if it's something we can do in our pjs. Although the Malaysian IP Office will be closed throughout the period, the online filing system is still up an running. So we are still able to file in new applications and certain requests in relation to existing applications where we're already the attorney on record.
Here are some of the things we can't do for the time being:-
Trademark
- The application of international registration via the Madrid Protocol will be suspended until 1 April 2020;
- All hearings will be suspended and rescheduled; and
- All matters requiring manual filing will be suspended until 1 April 2020
Patent & Design
- All hearings will be suspended and rescheduled; and

Copyright
The application of voluntary notices for copyright works will be suspended until 1 April 2020.
As for the deadlines:-
Trademark
- all renewals deadlines between 27 December 2019 and 27 March 2020 will be extended to 30 April 2020.
- all office action deadlines between 18 and 31 March 2020 will be extended to 30 April 2020.
Patent & Design
- All renewal falling due between 18 and 31 March 2020 will be extended 1 April 2020;
- If the deadline for claiming priority for any application falls on a date between 18-31 March 2020, the deadline will be extended to 1 April 2020.
